Crystal & Floyd Say I Do

This pass weekend I travel to North Bay, Ontario to capture the wedding of Crystal and Floyd. I had been emailing back and forth with Crystal for some time but had never met for or Floyd for that matter, Crystal had found me through the internet. Upon meeting her she was exactly as I had envisioned- full of life, funny, excited, and nervous. We met at The Terrace Suites a hotel just outside of North Bay were Crystal was getting ready with her matron of honor Linda. After taking some photos there we headed into Linda and Don’s (the best man) house were Floyd and Don were waiting. The wedding was a beautiful sunset ceremony on the beach. The sunset matched the ceremony- absolutely beautiful. Crystal and Floyd congratulations once again and thank you for letting me be part of your wedding day.

Baby E

Well I got to meet a really great family today. There was so much love in their house and I felt it when SC welcomed me at the door. As I walked in I was greeted by PC holding a very happy baby E. As we chatted we discovered the our worlds cross over a bit. SC is from an area that I have visited many times an love and PC is involved in a sport that some nights makes my chest hurt (my husband hates when I can't watch and he need to shout play by play to me upstairs). What can I say I'm a freak and proud out it.

I soon discovered the E likes the game peek-a-boo and I have a feeling Mommy and Daddy play it very often and quite well with him. At some points it was me getting peeked around. It provided lots of laughs and giggles. Something else I discovered while I was there this baby can bounce and has the coolest bouncy seat I have ever seen. Anyway I know you don't want to hear me ramble all you want are the pictures. I could go on and on about these three but I won't.

SC & PC thank you again for having my into your home and giving me the opportunity to capture your beautiful family.

Enjoy the pictures.

With tomorrow being Canada Day I just had to include one of E in his team Canada Jersey.

Happy Canada Day everyone!

E-motional!

What a week this was!

1. It started out with my sister visiting for the weekend- which I always look forward to but Monday morning I had to drop her are the airport and say goodbye. = Emotional!
I considered keeping her locked in a room in my basement but I figured that her sons and husband would really miss her.

2. Monday evening Michaela graduated from grade 6. = Emotional!
For some this isn't a big deal for me it is, In our village Michaela goes off to the high school next year (the high school is grade 7-12). I think it's a mix of two things- she's at the high school and that I really don't have a baby anymore. Thankfully she still likes to lay and cuddle with me.

3. Tuesday was Michaela's end of year school trip. I've always gone on the trips with the kids and before you say anything- they wanted me to go. It hit me while I was sitting and watching my group on the water slides that this would be one of the last school trips I would be on. =Emotional!
Mixed emotion but still emotional non the less.

4. Wednesday seen me editing photos, and updating my web site. = Emotional!
Granted it wasn't the same kind of emotion as the other days but when I working on anything to do with my photography I am excited as well as a little stressed. The outcome of the day was good. Everybody loved their pictures and the slideshow I put together was well received. Whew!

5. Thursday all hell broke loose. Farrah Fawcett died as well as the very unexpected passing of Michael Jackson. = Emotional!
Both of these people were part of my childhood, a big part. We watched Charlies Angels faithfully and and who can forget trying so hard to achieve the Farrah Feather. Michaela Jackson was one of my very first cassettes that I every got. Like so many other people I too learned how to Moonwalk. I loved listening to him but watching him was just as amazing. Yes there were things in the later years that disturbed me but it didn't stop me from enjoying his music. A couple of my favourites were Billy Jean, and Man in the Mirror.

6. Friday was a good day, we were having a couple to our house that we hadn't met before (only talked to on Twitter). Emotional!
There was house work, groceries, and dinner to prepare. I know from our tweets that I would enjoy them but whether or not they would like us, who knew. Well it turned out by the end of the night it felt as if we'd known Brian and Ivy for a very long time. We are looking forward to getting together with them again. Brian is a fellow Wedding Photographer, and a very talented one at that, in Ottawa so make sure to check out his site. BH Photography. Ivy to Brian is like Andy to me- our B units! We laughed but I think they are much more than our second shooters. They are that little extra boost of confidence when we need it as well as the sense of reason that we sometimes need, even if we don't want to admit it. All in all it was a great night and a perfect way to end an Emotional week.

And because everything is better with pictures. Here is a couple shots of my beautiful seventh grader Michaela.

STA Quebec City School Trip

A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to go on my son's school trip with him to Quebec City, shhh he wanted me to go, and what a great time we had. The trip was organized through a company called Perspectives. we rode in a very comfy BIG bus and when we arrived into Quebec City the tours guides met us and that is when the real fun began. We went on walking tours around the fort- Quebec City is the only fortified city in North America, see I learnt while I was there. We visited the Plains of Abraham where many battles over the city took place then it was off to the Montmorency Falls. What a place this was. We walked across a bridge spanning the falls than walked down what seemed like 1000 steps, I didn't count them but man-o-man there were a lot of them. On Thursday we headed out to a ski resort where they had set up different activities for the kids to do and the night ended in a dance- can these kids move! Friday seen us with some free time in the city in the morning then it was off to the water park for the afternoon. This had to be one of the most organized trips I'd ever been on and the kids were amazing. We got back into Russell late Friday night and I'm not sure about the kids but I was whipped.

Who's the Boss

With that sly little smile and twinkling eyes H promptly said- H's the boss! To that Mommy quickly replied- noooo and H laughed and went on eating her lunch. When you are around you can't help but smile when you look at this little girl. The cheerfulness pours out of her. I have a feeling that the Terrible Two's will by pass this house 'cause I couldn't imagine her being "terrible".
This little girl is so bright and full of life. I can say that I don't ever recall having a conversation with a two year old that where I could completely understand every single word and it all made sense- that is until today. Let's just say it has been decided that we are going on a picnic and there are a lot of people coming as well as some animals. It will be a blast and I can't wait.
What a fun time we had today. Little H jumped and bounced on the trampoline, ran in the yard, played a little soccer, sprayed some water, went on her swing, and than had some cake. The reason for the photo today is that ~H~ will be turning 2 very soon and well it just had to be captured. I could take pictures of this little girl all day long and not get tired of it.

Look for yourself at all the fun we had.

Sneak Peak- What a Gem!

I had the chance to do a family session on Saturday night for my cousin Jessica, her husband Denver, and their beautiful baby girl Ruby. What a sweetie she is. She has this most amazing laugh, you know the one where they laugh from their belly. Her whole face just lights up when Mommy and Daddy come into view. Besides meeting this little gem I also had a great time catching up with Jessica and Denver. It had been far to long. I have to admit they fed me this fabulous dinner on top of everything else and man-o-man can Denver cook. He made these brussels sprouts that were to die for- yes brussels sprouts with a coconut oil on them mmmm.

Jessica and Denver have been pretty busy themselves lately. Besides raising this beautiful little girl and being completely in love with one an other both have started new business lately. Denver doing financial planning and Jessica is helping people live a healthier life. If you want to know more check out Nature's Sunshine. After doing a health analysis with Jessica I got some supplements for myself, I've only been using them for a couple days now and I am already feeling a difference.

Enjoy the photo's

Miss P. Playing in the Dirt

So yesterday I had the chance to go into Ottawa and shoot one of my favorite little people- Miss. P! She has grown so much and doing so many new things. It's funny when these little people are put into a new environment and everything is just so new to them, they are curious about everything. I think it is a good reminder for me that there's something special in everything around us- you just have to look for it. This is a big weekend for Miss. P's parents as well, Today is her Daddy's Birthday, Happy Birthday Mike I hope it's a great one, and on Sunday her Mom is running the 1/2 marathon in the Ottawa Race Weekend, run safe and good luck.

Here's a slideshow with some of the pictures from yesterday, I hope you enjoy it.

Have a great weekend everybody.

Ottawa Tulip Festival

I always love the Ottawa Tulip Festival it's the sure sign that spring has arrived. My favorite flowers are tulips as well so I'm in double heaven, if that's even possible.
We tried to go on Sunday for Mother's Day but it was so cold that we didn't stay long. Monday however was beautiful so I packed up all my stuff and headed into the city, I saved a horse but took my car, were I spent the day taking pictures. I got a parking ticket but that's a whole different story. After i finished up at Dows Lake I headed into the Arboretum. If you've never been to it you just have to make the time and go. All the trees are coming into bloom so it's very pretty.

Anyway I'm off to pay my parking ticket and because everything is prettier with a picture......enjoy!

Go-Karting

Let me start out by saying Holy Wow I can't believe I haven't blogged in over a month. Lots has been going on. I came back from Arizona refreshed and ready to get down to work and that's what I did. I worked on the business side of CL Buchanan Photography as that's the side that keeps getting neglected. After being home for a bit I had a weekend away with some old and new friends from a community were I lived six years ago, Saint Lazare, Quebec. After coming home from that I was off to a workshop in Burlington, ON. This guy was amazing- his name [b]ecker ( I will go a separate post on the workshop). The workshop focused more on the business again so it was back home to reevaluate things.
While I have been running the roads my husband has been busy getting our son Jacob ready for his first year of go-karting. It has been great so far. Jacob and Andy are very excited to get the year going and this weekend they took the kart to Morristown, NY for a test run. This was Jacob's first time out in his own kart and Andy's first time as a Pit Cheif/Kart Owner so everything was new for both of them. They came home with a lot of stories to tell and I think they were both equally excited for the first official race May 2nd at SLMP. Here are a few pictures form the yesterday (pictures by Andy) as I stayed home and spent a relaxing day with our daughter Michaela

Back & Rejuvenated

Well I'm back from my trip to Arizona with my sister and what a great time we had. It was fantastic to be able to spend some time together. We had quiet time but seemed to see lots as well. I had never seen the Grand Canyon before so I took a day trip up there and all I can say is wow. It really is breath taking and you just have no idea of he size until you see it for yourself. I also had the chance to visit some native ruins, the painted dessert, the largest Navajo reservation, and there was just so much. We stayed in Sedona were all the red rocks are and it didn't matter how many times you looked at them you always seemed to notice something different. One of the other places we were able to visit was Jerome. Jerome was once a booming mining town that had become a ghost town. now there are about 500 people that live there.

Now that I'm back I have started working on my to-do list that I created while I was away (It's amazing what you think you can accomplish while having a glass of wine and relaxing). I'm looking forward to all my upcoming weddings and sessions with a whole new sense of excitement.

Here are some photos that were taken while on vacation, enjoy.

Jackie and Paul's Engagement Session Sneak Peak

Yesterday I had the opportunity to do an Engagement session for Jackie and Paul. I had met Jackie a while ago but had never met Paul before. After chatting for a little bit at the beginning I knew we were going to have a lot of fun. They are so cute together. When they look at each other they instantly smile which in turns makes the people around them smile. The morning started out a little blustery but it didn't take long for the snow to stop and for us to get some great shots. I am not their wedding photographer but I would like to think that we've become friends after today. I wish them nothing but happiness and love in their upcoming wedding and marriage.
Keep smiling at each other,
Cherie-Lynn

Winterlude 2009

We had such a great day at Winterlude on Monday and to make it even better it was Family Day. We started off by going over the the ice slides and looking at the snow sculptures. It always blows my mind to see what they can do with a big block of snow. It always makes me think about all the complaining that we do about it as well. How can something that causes people so much grief be so beautiful.
From there is was on to the canal. Michaela was the only only one that skated, the rest of us just walked it. It was such a nice day and the ice conditions were perfect. So many people were out enjoying the festivities. To top off our great day it was Beavertails all around. Oh so good but somehow they seem to taste that much better when they're enjoyed at Winterlude.
Because everything is better with a picture I put together a few from the day.
Enjoy,
CL

Wedding Albums

I have spent some time lately researching wedding album suppliers. I didn't realize that there were so many choices out there. I have narrowed it down to two companies- Finao and Asukabook. I have heard nothing but good things and have had the chance to take part in webinars for both companies. I am in the process of putting together a couple of sample albums and will hopefully have them order within a couple of weeks. Both companies offer lots of choices as to size, page type, cover style, and creative design. I'm looking forward to having them in my hand and being able to share them with my customers. And as my girl Jasmine says "Everything is better with pictures" here are a couple to wet your appetite.

We're Nuts- Another Dog

I have spent the week getting use to having another dog in the house. We bought him home on Sunday and we loved him the minute we seen him. Brom is a Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel Poodle cross). He's very playful and cuddly as well. Marco is adjusting and at times doesn't quiet know what to make of this little fluff ball jumping all over him. As well as the new dog I have done some work on my photography.
I've been working on finishing up my business plan, much to Andy delight, and also took in some webinars regarding wedding albums. I was thankful to also be able to sit in on a video chat of one of my photography idols. Bet you didn't know we had our own that we worshiped did you? Well we do and we are also very protective when they get disced. Tomorrow I'm headed to a photography seminar and hopefully will be able to take in a little bit of Winterlude here in Ottawa over the weekend as well.
Cheers & have a great weekend,
Cherie-Lynn
